Suitable Person Interview

I just wanted to add a follow up on this as I had my suitable person interview last week.

 

According to the lady, it is vital that the Chair is the nominated person and has had a suitable person interview. She was shocked that I had already been in post a year before anyone mentioned anything about this. I did point out that when a new chair fills out their EY2 this should trigger Ofsted to get in touch about doing the interview, rather than somehow expecting someone new to the post to realise they are meant to have this.

 

The interview itself was really in depth and covered all the requirements of the EYFS. Luckily thanks to this fabulous forum I was perfectly positioned to answer all her questions, I think I terrified her a bit by knowing so much, lol. Having said that, I wouldn't have known half of the answers if the interview had taken place just after I took on the post.

 

I also felt the interview was very intrusive in terms of some of the questions and when I told her this she agreed. Quite frankly doing this for job for nothing I felt the interview was a very big 'ask' for anyone who didn't have links to education previously.

 

She did also say that having had this interview is likely to trigger an inspection for us shortly (which we are due anyway) so please keep fingers crossed for us. Although to be honest I would like to get it out of the way so staff can relax a bit.

We have never the had chair as the nominated person. Always has been the manager. Seems daft as chairs could and often do move on each year , which would mean a new suitable person interview annually, and according to the inspector you spoke to, annual Ofsted inspections!! Dear God, I could't bear it!!

Interesting one that - we've always had the chair as the nominated person and never given it a second thought . . . . .until now!

 

It could be good if the Leader was the nominated person for all of the reasons above.

its the same here, I rang Ofsted last year to give details of our new committee members and mentioned due to committee changing each year would I being the Leader could be the nominated person for the setting, as all paper work was getting sent to the old chair and not getting to me, they said yes that was ok. At least I get all the info sent to me instead now.

It's very annoying that we get different answers depending on who we speak to. I did tell her that when I had queried this on the phone with Ofsted, they had said it was fine for the manager to be the nominated person.

 

However ... we had a very clear cut letter from our LEA, via Ofsted, that any settings where the chair was not the nominated person could potentially fail an inspection.

 

Wish they would make up their minds!

unless things have changed since November.. the setting I left had manager as nominated person , not chair and they got outstanding...

 

as usual one person says one thing and another something completely different.

 

I do feel that is is completely unfair to ask a mum with no experience of any of this to be interviewed at depth when they will only be there a year as many are... think it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the committee and I can fully see why..

That was exactly what I had thought but she was very clear that I had to be the nominated person because I am the employer.

Hi I have always been the nominated person as the 'supervisor' and not the Chair - Ofsted said it didn't matter who it was as long as there was one! Have already written to Ofsted to inform them that I will be relinquishing the nominated person role in July, and that the new manager/supervisor will become the nominated person - not heard anything - so, all seems ok from Ofsted's point of view.

 

On a similar vein....(just hijacking the post - sorry)

Just wondering - we are due an inspection (like anytime NOW!) do you think Ofsted will come before the end of the summer term or wait until the new supervisor is in place in September - actually how will they know? as I haven't sent the forms off yet to inform Ofsted I have left (coz I haven't yet) - I am still at pre school until end of July.. ermm now what do I do? Do I call Ofsted to tell them I am leaving and new manager arriving Sept? or do I just return the form when I have gone and hope that they don't turn up in the next few weeks?

Advice please!

you could try advising them that you are leaving - but this won't necessarily stop them coming now. I was told of a groupo who had an inspector turn up thinking they were someone else, as they had got records scrambled. Inspector said - Oh well nevermind, as we're here we'll do you anyway - and they weren't due!
