AnonyMouse_79 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Please, please be careful when you are uploading a moving avatar, for some people they can cause serious problems. Migraine or headache is a dsitinct possibility and even seizure. It only takes a moment for these symptoms to arise and while migraine symptoms are more easily offset by moving away from the image causing the problem, a seizure is not so easily offset. Unfortunately a member has experienced that today and the consequences of a seizure can be long term ie loss of driving license. Quote
AnonyMouse_13453 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Oh goodness. How dreadful. Thank you for the reminder Susan, I hope mine has never caused any problems Quote
AnonyMouse_19733 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I think (hope) that you and me are OK Cait with subtle movements. I get migraine "flashing lights" and there was a fairly new user posting on here a few days ago with an Avatar that was very dazzling and flashing from top to bottom and back again I think (if that makes sense), I couldn't stay to read the post as my eyes started to get zigzag flashes. AnonyMouse_13453 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Yes, I noticed that one Edited September 5, 2010 by Cait Quote
AnonyMouse_2776 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 My husband has epilepsy (partial complex - temporal lobe) and I know how sad it can be to see a loved one experiencing a seizure. His is in the temporal lobe, so more in auditory aspects than visual ones. So he is happy to keep on playing his video games... LOL. Losing a driving license is complicated enough for people who cannot get public transportation to their works or other errands. Quote
AnonyMouse_19762 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Please let me know if mine is causing problems - I will, of course, change it if necessary...... 1 Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Ditto! Hope mine's ok - let me know if not and I'll stop the animation Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Goodness how awful, I've never given any thought to things like that but it's a timely reminder as I have a boy with severe epilepsy in my class this year and this is a good warning in case I had ever decided to put flashy graphics up on the interactive whiteboard! On the subject though I've never been able to look directly at your avatar BMG, it makes my eyes feel extremely weird, as if I'm just about to go dizzy or get a headache or something. I think that's to do with my strange eyesight though so I'm sure it won't be a problem for anyone else! Quote
AnonyMouse_79 Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks for your concern everyone. Can I reassure everyone that the avatar was not any of the ones mentioned here and I do not want to start a mud throwing exercise! Please be aware though and if you have any problems please contact the moderators. Thank you. Quote
AnonyMouse_1195 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 It is the really flashy, fast moving and colourful or psychedelic ones that may cause a problem, as in the case Susan has mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I think this serves as a timely reminder for us to choose something not too flashy or fast. We would contact someone if we thought their avatar was unsuitable, and as Susan has said, if anyone has any difficulties with an Avatar then contact Admin or one of the moderation team via a personal message and we will sort it out. Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 eek, is mine ok?? If not then I'll happily change it if someone can give me the idiots guide on how to do so Quote
AnonyMouse_79 Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 Rapunzel, rest assured yours is ok. Quote
Steve Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Here's the thing chaps. There's no fault attached to the person choosing the avatars - after all they're freely available specifically for people to use and can be very amusing and eye catching. We're just going to have to make a judgement ourselves as to whether or not they're also potentially problematic. Luckily we have at least one member who can tell us that very quickly, so we'll contact you and ask you to change it if it's not suitable. The general rule of thumb is to think about how fast moving and repetitive the avatars are. Other than that we'll get in touch with you if we think there's any risk and please don't feel we're criticising - we're just making sure everyone can use the FSF comfortably! 1 Quote
AnonyMouse_52032 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I've just seen this thread. Can someone please look at my avatar does it flash? When I found it on the internet it flashed but when I see it next to my posts it doesn't. What does it look like from your end- I don't want to give anyone a migraine or seizure - I will change it if need be Thank you xxx 2 Quote
