Guest
Hi..... How do you map steps against the EYFS Development matters? Do you cross reference your observations with the development matters? Do you use the development mattters when planning next steps ? Thank you
Helen
I'm not in a nursery now but when I was, we used to write observation notes into the children's learning journeys, and then look through the dev matters statements to see which ones could be applied to the observation. We had the dev matters statements printed off and stapled together for each child (you can find my EYFS child records in the resource library here. We would then put the date in the adjacent column, next to the dev matters statement. This allowed us to see at a glance where we had no observational evidence, and how we might decide on the child's next steps, using the dev matters statements and also the other columns in the guidance document.
