Guest Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 What do we class summer born as? is it summer term?
AnonyMouse_19782 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I would generally think of being born between April and August for funding purposes, but April seems a little early for "personal" thoughts of summer and I would go for more like end of May:O)
AnonyMouse_11396 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Summer born is from the 1st April until 31st August cut off.
AnonyMouse_6008 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Thought it was 1 May to 31 August? That's how it is in Suffolk, anyway.
AnonyMouse_8457 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 ahem Summer starts on the 21st June Ha ha I don't know what it is here - I would have said that last term though - the summer term?
AnonyMouse_1195 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Summer born children are regarded as those born in the Summer term so are born from May 1st to the 31st August. This is in line with the term dates and/or teacher contracts regardless of when Easter actually falls.
AnonyMouse_11396 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Thanks Jacquie my mistake i was thinking of funding dates.
AnonyMouse_1195 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 It's certainly counted as that for the free 15 hours entitlement isn't it so really that should match up further up the system? Looking at research into summer born children they seem to find it is the June, July and August children who be appear to be behind their year group in attainment. That's not really rocket science to understand and why anyone would expect different I don't know considering the age difference from one end of the year to the other, our year cohorts are purely arbitary dates after all.
