"hands" Rhyme

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know the words to the rhyme that starts:

I have ten little fingers and they all belong to me

I can make them do things, would you like to see?

I have used this rhyme many times before from a book I have on action rhymes, but cannot find the book or remember the rest of the rhyme.

Alternatively, does anyone know any action songs about hands and what we can do with them?

Thanks

Jackie

Ten Fingers

I have ten little fingers,

And they all belong to me.

(hold hands out in front)

I can make them do things,

Would you like to see?

I can shut them up tight.

(make a fist)

I can open them up wide

(spread fingers out)

I can put them together.

(clasp hands together)

I can make them all hide.

(put hands behind back)

I can make them jump high.

(raise hands over head)

I can make them jump low.

(lower hands to knees)

I can fold them like this

and hold them just so.

(fold hands in lap)

And another...

One Little Astronaut

Five, four, three, two, one, zero!

Blast off! Went our little hero.

(start with five fingers up;

fold them down one at a time)

The little astronaut

Blasted off the world.

(with hands together quickly

thrust them overhead)

Once in orbit, he twirled;

(rotate body around)

He circled to the left,

And he circled to the right.

Then he was so dizzy

That he slept all night

(lay cheek on open palm)

And one more

Five Little Fishies

Five little fishies swimming in a pool,

(wiggle fingers)

First one said, "The pool is cool."

(one finger up, wrap arms around body)

Second one said, "The pool is deep."

(two fingers up, measure deep)

Third one said, "I want to sleep."

(three fingers up, rest head on hands)

Fourth one said, "Let's dive and dip."

(four fingers up, hand dives and dips)

Fifth one said, "I spy a ship."

(five fingers up, peer out under hand)

Fisherman's boat comes,

(fingers form a V and move away from body)

Line goes ker-splash,

(pantomime throwing fishing line)

Away the five little fishies dash.

(wiggle five fingers away)

Haven't even had a cup of tea yet and I've been home half an hour! So I am probably stating the obvious: 'Tommy Thumb, Tommy Thumb, where are you...........here I am, here I am, how do you do!' etc.

Another our children love is using the finger idea and playing with silly words, I'll try to demonstrate.......... (to the tune of 'If your happy and you know it)

'Put your finger on your head, on your head,

'Put your finger on your head, on your head,

'Put your finger on your head..........(then improvise, ask children what rhymes, eg leave it here til you go to bed)

'Put your finger on your head, on your head.

Then choose a body part or something close to you

Put your finger on your knee, on your knee (repeat)

Put your finger on your knee (improvise again eg, leave it there til you have your tea) etc

The children love it and spontaneously add all kinds of ridiculous rhyming verses. WARNING! It can get out of control (or do I mean the children take control..........)

Time for that cup of tea I think!

Hi Jackie,

From Bobby Shaftoe Clap your hands by A.C.Black ( ace book)

Clap your hands and wriggle your fingers

Clap your hands and wriggle your fingers

Clap your hands and wriggle your fingers

Now we've made a pattern

I think its sung to the tune of In and out the dusty bluebells

you can make your own extra verses up with the children

Hi Jackie,

We also use these two :

I hide my hands, I shake my hands I give a little clap. I clap my hands I shake my hands I hide them in my lap.

AND

My fingers dance and hide away, crawl them out and see them play, slowly, slowly let them creep, fold them up and go to sleep.

Love all the others everyone has posted !

Best wishes

Galleon :D

Another rhyme we use is;

Roll your hands so slowly

As slowly as can be.

Roll your hands so slowly

And fold your arms like me.

Roll your hands so quickly

As quickly as can be

Roll your hands so quickly

And fold your arms like me.

Clap your hands so softly

As softly as can be.

Clap your hands so softly

And fold your arms like me.

Clap your hands so smartly

As smartly as can be

Clap your hands so smartly

And fold your arms like me.
