Union For Nursery Staff?

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I was doing a search for which union I could join, but couln't find anything obvious. I work in a Private Nursery, so UNISON won't work, I am not a QTS, so NUT won't either. What have others done?

thanks for any tips in the right direction.

Hi I've joined Voice the Union (I think that is what it is called), previously known as PANN (Professional Association of Nursery Nurses), I pay monthly, the amount is dependent on how much you earn

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone on the forum xD

I think it depends where you work as to which union is best.

I am a nursery nurse working in a school so chose one of the big public sector unions.

I am with UNISON and have found them to be very good. We have regular local meetings for school support staff which are very useful and I always try to attend.

I think that specialised unions are good because they may have better understanding of the jobs that we do but bigger unions definately have more clout :o

Hi

Does anyone belong to 'voice'?

I need to decide whether to stick with my current union or join something new - voice looks really good and their website seems up to date and offers lots of benefits..wheras teh contents of my union website never seems to change in the year ive been a member and Ive found very little of relevance / interest to me, working in early years, in their quarterly magazine so has got me wondering how voice compares in the real world?

Has anyone actually had support from the union representatives ?

I am a member of Voice, have been for about four years now. I have had reason to approach them for advice a few times in the last eighteen months. I have found them friendly, knowledgeable and supportive; although I haven't had to call on them for action (thankfully), their support has meant I have been able to addess the various issues knowing I was correct and within my rights - and knowing what my employers could and couldn't get away with.

They reply to emails rapidly, even if simply to acknowledge initially and get back quickly thereafter. They have also followed up these instances either with email or a phone call a couple of weeks later to check that all is OK.

I would thoroughly recommend them

Sue :D
