Guest
Hi am new here - after doing numerous searches in the past month or so and the site being at the top of Google , I decided to join. I am hoping you can help me. I have returned to work after maternity leave and teaching Year 4 to teach in the Reception class. (I have taught Reception before though) The school I teach at has a nursery and we share the outdoor area. We sat down this morning to plan the outdoor space as it needs some improvement and we were both struggling to think of some continuous provision ideas for Mathematical ideas. We will struggle to buy anything new.....but have you any ideas? Thanks Jane
AnonyMouse_25084
I have numbered buckets/cones. Children can throw beansbags into buckets or hoops over cones and add their scores. Numbers to be pegged on washing line. Capacity can explored in the sand and water tray with different containers. Hide shapes outside to find/name or look for shapes in the natural environment, repeating patterns with natural objects. K x
AnonyMouse_1469
If you are thinking about adding tyres at all, phone your local garage, they will happily give them to you and might even deliver free. They have to pay to get rid of them, so are always happy to donate them
Guest
by having laminated numbers these can be moved around to go into what ever area the children choose to play in as we all know maths happens in all areas. bring some natural items in to, stones, cones shells bark top soil water wood den making stuff guttering metal kitchen equipment to make a cheap musical area
Guest
Thanks....it seems like we are the right track..... The only problem we have with number lines is that the nursery children find it difficult to use the pegs....any ideas how we can get round this? The only problem we have with number lines is that the nursery children find it difficult to use the pegs....any ideas how we can get round this? I have a line with numbered 'airballs' on it - the children just move them across a piece of washing line. it works really well. Nicky
