Thanks yes i was meaning the phase words but know wondered peoples views on this really as do some only send home trick words and phonemes for blending others? AnonyMouse_25084 Posted February 5, 2011 Share Posted February 5, 2011 I send home a word list each week which is made up of words with the phonemes/digraphs we have learnt that week. I also include the tricky word we have learnt but that is in blue so they can see its tricky. I put a note at the front for parents to undertstand that the word lists are support the blending of the sounds and not about learning them by sight (except the tricky words). I started doing these last year and wasn't sure if it would work, but it has been brilliant. the children love their word books and most children developed blending skills quicker and they helped with recognises sounds. I send home the sounds with just a few words for low achieving children. I go through the words with the children on at the end of the week with each individual child, its not like a test but put to them more as show me what's you practised at home.
