Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I was just wondering if anyone can help me find some idea's for presents for our pre-schoolers who are going on to reception in September. We have 13 altogether and i wondered if somebody knows a website i can use or a specialist shop.

Thanks in anticipation and do you know how addictive this site is,it's Brilliant!!!!

In the past we have done the "Hands" poem, with photo of child and laminated. Other years a small pencil case with a few items in.

I also give each parent a CD ( £11.99 for 50 at viking) with all the photographs I've taken of their child during their time with us ( saves printing out and using a lot of ink and paper :D )

Let us know what you decide to give.

I use a company called "All your own work" Children can have their artwork made into various gifts. (pencil case, mousemat, placemat, mug)

One of our staff made us a graduation cape and hat and each leaver is photographed and the picture is put on their certificate then laminated. and presented to them at the end of term concert.

Try The Book People's website (www.thebookpeople.co.uk) for packs of story books - at christmas I managed to get hold of 30 good quality picture books(including Julia Donaldson's A squash and a squeeze) for £15 from their sale ends. As a record of their time at Nursery we present children and their families with a scrapbook of paintings, collages photos etc. at a special 'leaver's assembly'

Dear Peggy

What a fantastic idea - you have got so many of them - I love the idea of a CD - you clearly are a lot more organised than I am - how do you manage it - I have plenty of ideas but jsut don't seem to have time to put them all into practice - perhaps time is not on my side, how I would love to run a 36 hour day - or would I fill that too.

Love the cd idea.Last year we gave each child a book. The book people had a pack of 10 books for £12. In my old preschool we had shoe bags made for them. Another idea is to buy plain mugs and get someone to paint their name and your school. You can pick up mugs for around 50p.

Love the CD idea!!

We give a book to each leaver. We also get ours from the book people - great value.

Did you know that you can register your pre-school with the Book People and get 10% back from sales to parents by way of book vouchers. We do quite well as they are so cheap, parents do buy quite a bit.

I'm pleased you have liked the CD idea, If anyone is thinking of doing the same here's a tip; When saving pictures to computor save as... and write every childs name who appears in the picture then month & year ie: sam, ben, ana, 0405.

I then have a folder for each child on the computor where I put each photo they are in. I use a digital camera ( fuji) and photodeluxe four.

As many parents may not have this programme, before I save the pics to CD, I change them to GIF format ( this uses less memory/space as well). The print quality is not as good as the original pic but most parents just look at them on their computors.

If a parent hasn't got a computor I show them a slideshow of all the pics at preschool on my laptop and they choose which ones they like and these I will print off.

I have been asked why I don't charge for CD's or pics, but I just get a sense of pride and so much enjoyment from looking at the pics I don't feel the need to. :D
