Guest Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Ive just had a read of the new school food based standards for food other than lunches. Its very strict but says its for schools so what I wish to know is as a preschool and offering extended services to the local primary school (voluntary led) should we not be providing any biscuits or cakes. We had planned to have the option of healthy snack or biscuit and drink after school but from what this is saying this is a no go area. Any help again appreciated.
Guest Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 We run breakfast, after school & holiday clubs, we implemented this about 3 years ago after discussions with our feeder schools. Although at first the kids moaned about brown bread, no dilute pop etc after a short while they never even mentioned it. We do celebtate childrens birthdays with parties and this is when we relax the policy, this way children see it as a treat. i feel that this is good practice as we are not duplicating what children may have had for school dinner or even worse in their packed lunch.
