AnonyMouse_33615 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Does anyone have any good number rhymes or songs to share? We seem to pull out the same ones each time, and I feel a few new ones would be good! Our current favourites are: 5 little ducks/speckled frogs/men in a flying saucer; 10 green bottles/fat sausages; elephants on a spiders web; 1,2,3,4,5, once I caught a fish alive. Any new ones anyone??

AnonyMouse_19782 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 What's that Panders? Don't think I've heard that one You may know it with a different name, Peter hammers with one hammer, one hammer, one hammer Peter Hammers with one hammer, this fine day (you make a fist and tap your knee) Peter hammers with two hammers etc. (using both fists on respective knees) Peter hammers with three hammers etc. (using both fists and a foot tapping) Peter hammers with four hammers (using both fists and both feet tapping peter hammers with five hammers (using both fists and both feet tapping and nodding the head) Peter's getting tired now tired now tired now Peter's getting tired now this fine day. (movements get slower and slower, until everyone pretends to go to sleep) Peter's gone to sleep now sleep now sleep now Peter's gone to sleep now this fine day. shh shh Peter's waking up now up now up now Peter's waking ujp now this fine day (everyone wakes up and moves their arms and legs etc) Another one we like is 5 caterpillars sat upon a leaf one caterpillar fell fast asleep when she woke up she found she could fly Now there are 4 caterpillars and one butterfly the children sit together wear float scarves like capes round their shoulders one lays down to sleep, then gets up on their cue and flies around using the scarf cape as wings.
AnonyMouse_33615 Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Love the caterpillar one, what's the tune though?

Guest Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) 5 Little Firemen is quite nice too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XdL_RZ96Wc I've changed the words to this to fit in with loads of topics and last year we had it as our xmas concert song but changed the words to: 5 little reindeer standing in a row, 12345 let's go, along came santa with his sleigh one day, and said hey reindeer let's be on our way etc. or something like that anyway! And on the 12345 bit we rang jingle bells and as the song moved on each reindeer got in the sleigh. Very cute! Edited May 18, 2011 by Guest

AnonyMouse_19782 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Perfect timing as 1 of our 5 caterpillars has hatched....mind you we might go in tomorrow to find another butterfly. Thanks I'm cross because I have been looking for a photograph of our children doing this, but as ever, can't find what I'm looking for when I want it. The children wear hats with a picture of a caterpillar sat on a leaf and around their shoulders we have colourful floaty chiffon or silky scarves, they sit in a circle, and we all repeat the rhyme and gradually as we move along in the rhyme the children watching can see maths at work, so that we go from 5 caterpillars to 5 butterflies all shimmering their wings at the end.
Guest heleng Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Mine like 'When I was one I ate a bun The day I went to sea. I jumped on board a pirate ship and the captain said to me, We're going this way that way Forwards, backwards, over the Irish Sea, A bottle of rum to fill my tum and that's the life for me Aye' 'When I was two etc I ________________________ (whatever you like as long as it rhymes with the number)
