Help With Our Planning Process

we are currently looking into our planning system, it seems to work currently, but the paperwork seems a bit long winded.

 

this is all the paperwork currently associated with the planning process ---

 

**we have a floor plan which we use to set out the activites -handy to have as we have different staff working different days, so they can work from the floorplan when setting up

**a sheet with 6 areas of learning in boxes -each activity is listed in one of these 'boxes' - this helps us to make sure we have covered all the areas

**a tick sheet with all our activites, toys, equipment etc - each activity is ticked -and added to when children access different activites to the plans

**minuites of the planning meeting - this explains the reasons for activites we have planned etc

**each staff member has a copy of the 'devlopment matters' we are hoping to cover / observe that week

**an evaluation is also completed after each session -this details what has happened during the session, if any children have shown paticuar interests in anything not on the plans.

**a session sheet is completed everyday for the parents to see what the children have done,what stories have been read, which songs have been sung.

 

planning is done every week - with long term plans done termly.

 

as i said, it does work - but am wondering if there is a more streamlined way of doing it ? would anyone be kind enough to let me see how they orgainse their planning ?

Hi

This is how we have done it. We coded our EYFS development matters book. Each week we cover one of the development matters that is in one of the 6 areas of learning (supervisor does this as she aims to cover all the development matters in just over a year). Staff take it in turns to do one weeks worth of planning coming up with activities to cover the 6 development matters. We also plan 2 focus activities per week and look at festivals extra activities. This is determined by the next steps of certain children. We use room plans and put in the planned activities. Then we add other activities that they children have recently shown an interest in and ensure that in each room and outside there is an activity for each of the 6 areas. We evaluate for the week ie comments of what worked, didnt, what children requested. This leads into forthcoming planning. Planning is put on the wall and website for parents to view. Thats it.

Staff work in pairs for each week

Only critisism I have is that some of the development matters are awful to plan for..in fact some are just a look, listen and note if children do something.
