Steve Posted September 17, 2003 Share Posted September 17, 2003 Margaret Hodge highlighted the importance of children’s early learning experiences as she announced the appointment, on 17th September, of Lesley Staggs as the first ever National Director of the Foundation Stage. Margaret Hodge said: "I'm delighted at the appointment of Lesley Staggs as our first National Director of the Foundation Stage. She commands enormous respect across all stakeholders and will be able to lead the work on ensuring that the quality of play and learning for young children is of a consistently high standard. “The new director will work on the link between the foundation stage and the first years of formal education in primary schools so that every child enjoys an experience that is appropriate to their age and their development."
