AnonyMouse_4581
It must have been asked before! Those of you with just one big room, how do you organise small group circle and story times? The main problem we find is the noise level, impossible to read/talk to a small group when the rest of the room is busy with other, more noisy, things! We do have an outdoor space and that can be used as another 'room' but not year round. Do you section off an area? I'm struggling with this- I know it's good practice but have never been able to successfully implement it. Any ideas gratefully received!
Guest
Maybe you could section off an area for your group with cupboards or partitions then create some sort of canopy hanging from the ceiling with fabric that comes right down. This might help a bit with the noise. I saw someone on here recently suggest having fabric wall hangings around the room to absorb some of the noise in big rooms. maybe that would help too. AnonyMouse_11396
Hi when you say not " year round" is there a particular reason or barriers that prevent you from using your outdoor area. Can it not be accessed throughout the year whatever the weather. We are able to zone our large hall into different areas with a quiet/storytime space, this can help with noise levels. These can go on throughout a morning. We also have a pre-school code of indoor voices and outdoor voices this can work quite well to keep noise levels down, soft furnishings, mats, rugs, carpets may also help. Guest
we are in a lrage hall with a lobby we do 3 story groups, one in the lobby and 2 in the main hall but we have areas partitioned off with small panels and they do not find that they disturb each other, we also use the garden all year but when it is ok weather we will have story out side
Guest
In our old building we had one small group in our cloakroom and one bigger group in the main room, or sometimes 2 groups, as we did have a small divider, but it depended on what each group was doing, as singing in one group and a story in the other didn't work! Now we are in our new building, and it is a different shape, so we have one in the cloakroom, one on the carpet, one round the corner a little at the tables, and one outside. Just takes a bit of creativity, and the cloakroom! Clare
