Guest Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Hi - we currently cover all our sockets when not in use > Today we had a visit from our landlady and she , in passing, mentioned that she had been made aware of the dangers of using socket covers> I have googled this and yes there are several reasons why they are dangerous _ do you all use them or not ?????
AnonyMouse_8282 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 No. But in all honesty we have very limited sockets......... and limited very 'younger' children (we take from 2) I personally wouldn't want to use them having seen some of the research, but can fully understand why there is a need not to have something in place. I'm not sure, but I think you can get covers for the whole socket rather than plug in types.
AnonyMouse_12960 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Yes we do, but have downloaded info from ROSPA (who don't recommend thier use ) to have to show just in case Mrs Ofsted turns up and tries to complain if we have left a cover off!!!!
AnonyMouse_19733 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 No we don't; and, although I have a copy of the evidence to show Ofsted they have taken my word about the dangers and been okay with that.
AnonyMouse_3139 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 In a thing I read, Ofsted had been told not to mark someone down for not having them.
AnonyMouse_3544 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I don't use them either and I also heard that Ofsted shouldn't mark people down ECERS do though no matter what evidence you have - so I am in two minds for my inspection as I still have the covers. There are whole socket covers here http://www.babysecurity.co.uk/categories/3...-Socket-Covers/
Guest Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I feel silly asking this, however, what is wrong with the socket covers? We use them as I had no idea they were in any way dangerous! I use them at home too!
AnonyMouse_3735 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 The potential problems with socket covers.... Fatally flawed
AnonyMouse_35990 Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I have just seen this and although I can see the point surely children in our care should not be playing with sockets or socket covers in the first place
Guest Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I can't believe I've missed this! Although, having read all the information I do agree with mummymunch that it is still safer to have them in. It would take the children that long to get the covers out that we woud see them before it became an issue. Nothing is ever sraight forward is it?!
