Rising 5 Activities

Recommended Posts

Guest LucyQ

Hi there. I'm looking for inspiration with my Rising 5 time. We do 15 mins at the end of every session. I'm looking for any ideas really and especially easily set up ones with few resources. Thanks in advance.

Hi LucyQ

Are you looking for activities for specific elgs? I have worked with rising 5s for many years now and most of our activities are connected to our topic, but I also include games and activities to cover CLL and MD.

We do specific learning areas on different days of the week with our four year olds:

Monday-they bring in items for letter sound of the week and share a storybook.

Tuesday -they bring back 'homework' (a task to do with their family each week-this week's was to draw the road signs they see on their way home from pre-school) and we discuss and do a related activity ( this week was making traffic lights)

Wednesday-music session

Thursday-a science experiment

Fri-Maths/ICT

There are lots of ideas on the Web but two books I have used a lot are Minimaths by Beam www.beam.co.uk and the series 'Learning Activities for early years' published by A and C Black.

Hi Emma

At our pre-school Rising 5 time is a session with those children who will be starting reception in September. We don't call it that but we have these all year through as part of our keyworker groups. We timetable a 15 minute session each day for our older children to work in a small group looking at each area on a rolling program. So if we start on Monday of the first week with a PSED activity we then work through each area of learning with the following Monday having a creative development emphasis. Tuesday we start again with PSED. We look at each area of learning and find an activity that will support the stepping stones.
