Christmas Hats

We have bands of card with different shapes cut out of the top band, then glue on Christmas decorations and fit to each child's head size. We're not using glitter this year as last year it got in children's eyes when they put them on their heads and in their food, as the children make them when they arrive on party day as an ice breaker/settling in activity.

I was about to say please don't put glitter on hats, use tinsel or shiny stars etc.. it gets into eyes so easily and is not good as it can scratch them - glitter glue is ok as it doesn't fall off in the same way...

seems Deb got there first...

crowns are the easiest.. we used to cut them a bit short and use a piece of elastic at the back, they stayed on and fitted so much better than the solid circles.

We have lots of pre-cut bands, Then as the centrepiece of the hat another piece of card which I usually cut into crown shapes or something. The children decorate the crown shape as they want to with stickers (not glitter) as already mentioned. We then stick these crown shapes to the band in the middle and fit the bad to the individual child's head.

If you have any old Christmas cards, we used up lots of disney characters from old christmas cards one year and the children just stuck one of those to the front of a headband.
