Guest Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Has anyone ever put toilet training on a IEP for a child with global developmental delay(3-4 years old) if so how have you worded it.
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 yes ...is it acheiveable?? if so i broke it down into small step tasks so things like go to toilet when asked (i mean travel to!) can pull down own trousers or can pull up own trousers will sit on toilet with support will sit on toilet without support then combinations etc also you need to include the way you are going to communicate /and the child is going to communicate when they want/need to go to the toilet (sign/speech/picture/object etc.) without more info on the child it's difficult to give more info.... i would suggest you contact your local portage service (if you have one who may have this info already to hand) good luck
AnonyMouse_11396 Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Yes we do, as finleysmaid says break it down into achievable steps and see how you go. Working with parent/carers is essential to support this though. Good luck.
Guest Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 We too have broken it down into small steps and worked closely with parents so that the child wasnt getting mixed messages ie one thing at home and something different in setting (as far as possible of course!!)
AnonyMouse_705 Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 You could also seek the support of your local HV or as in our case the Nursery Nurse attached let the surgery who specializes in supporting toilet training.
