Hi everyone,

I am just coming to the end of my NQT year in a mixed reception/ year one class and I have got to give a presentation (using power point) to parents who have children starting in reception. This will be my first time doing this! Does anyone have any pointers about what to include or a copy of a presentation I may be able to look at? Any help greatly appreciated!! I have a vague idea of what I'm going to put together but with the new curriculum and assessment format coming in, I'm a little panic stricken!!

Thank you!

I have a powerpoint presentation that I used last year, I don't have it on my home PC but will happily upload it for you tomorrow when I'm in school. Will just have to remove the photos first, but you are welcome to have a look at the structure of it. Of course it will need to be changed to cater for the new areas of learning but it's something to start with if it's helpful at all.

Hi-I have organised several new parents meetings, but have never included a power point presentation. What I would say is KEEP IT BRIEF. The new parents will be excited and a bit bewildered and some will be thinking 'my child surely can't be old enough to start school yet!'

They will want to hear about uniform and snacks and get practical advice on how to prepare their child in the summer holidays.

I have written a 'Welcome to School ' booklet, which I talk through, but there is no point in going on too much about the curriculum-it just won't 'go in'. I speak for about 15 to 20 mins and then we have a glass of wine and an informal chat with a chance to look at and buy uniform. Our cook talks about school dinners and brings samples of food (usually pizza!) for the parents to try.

Good luck with your evening.

We start the Autumn term with half days for the children for two weeks, so we explain this to parents. This year we think we will have 'models' to show parents the uniform options and PE kit. I love the idea of the cook giving samples! We also have a PP presentation with photographs of the sort of work/topics we have covered over the previous years to show parents the kind of things their child will be doing on a daily basis, but we have separate parent workshops early in the new term to explain things like reading scheme, phonics, number work etc.
