AnonyMouse_35585
We want to set up an ice cream parlour in our role play area for the summer term. Has anyone got any good ideas on what to put in there? What did you use for ice cream, cones etc. Thanks
AnonyMouse_21338
we have done this a few times - we've used differant coloured playdough, coloured rice for sprinkles, cheap bowls from £1 shop- we have also used ball pit balls for ice cream and those polystyrene chip cones as 'cones'. i have heard of people using instant mash potato and proper ice cream scoops - depends how brave you are lol !!
AnonyMouse_41997
How about adding essence to the playdough - eg vanilla essence to White playdough, mint essence to green playdough etc etc
AnonyMouse_26037
I had a beach/ice cream shop role play a couple of years ago. I've attached a couple of photos in case you'd like to see. I used coloured playdough for ice cream and made chocolate playdough too. For lollipops I cut thick card painted orange then sandwiched it around a real lollipop stick (used rubber bands to hold together until dry). The cones I made were just cardboard and worked ok for a bit but got softened a bit when the playdough was added. I'd rethink these if I did it again. Love the idea of coloured rice for sprinkles . AnonyMouse_4869
I have used coloured cotton wool balls, and paper cones, real scoop. Went down a storm, but one of my less 'realistic' role plays.

Guest
klc, I see you are in Leicester, we are too and we use yarn cones which we get from our local sock factory free of charge. They love us taking them as they have to get rid of them so if you can get over her eyou can have as many as you like. AnonyMouse_3735
Not made it but may be worth a try.. some may manage it with older groups.. we had card cones and tissue paper as ice cream.. used lots, had a box with holes cut out so the cones could sit in it upright.. children helped make them so they were looked after and easily replaced..
Guest
We made ice cream with our rising 5's group, took a while but was a good experiment in how things change and quite tasty too!
