Guest HPS Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Does anyone know where to buy neutral and calm backing paper from? Everywhere I look there is bright and manic primary colours but would really like some beige/muted green etc in order to make the environment more harmonious. Thanks in advance
Guest Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Hi We use fabric if that's any help - lasts a long time too E X
AnonyMouse_3307 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 The communication friendly spaces approach is hessian http://www.elizabethjarmantraining.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=13&Itemid=11 (not recommending this source, just using it as example!) Which is very nice - many of my schools use it. Cx
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 just a warning about the hessian check your fire regulations before you put it up
AnonyMouse_26037 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Don't know what kind of setting you're in (i.e. are you getting paper just for yourself or are you sharing with lots of others) but sometimes at school I use the back of colours of paper that are less popular (orange for some reason!). The children and I then 'print' it using different techniques so we can have whatever colours we like! Creates some lovely effects, gets them to explore different techniques and do big painting (all those shoulder and arm muscles working) and uses up odds and ends of paper that would otherwise get too dog eared to use and then thrown away! 1
AnonyMouse_19782 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I bought wallpaper with a "hessian" pattern on it from a DIY store and painted it.
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 consortium do a huge range of colours including cream, also a very pleasant pale blue
AnonyMouse_38881 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I saw a suugestion of lining paper for under wallpaper so you focus on the display not the backing! We asked parents for donations of wallpaper , expecting offcuts and intending to use it for large scale marking! We ended up with whole rolls so some displays are backed in that, which was interesting to do! We're wondering if it will fade less than 'normal' backing paper as we hope to keep adding to the displays over the year rather than redoing them!
AnonyMouse_19733 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Just thought I would open a be of a debate here - I would have thought that paper would be just as flamable as hessian? So I wonder what fire regulations are in place for paper stapled on the walls maybe we would all be better with proper wallpaper glued onto the walls/display boards? would this create less of a fire hazard?
Guest Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 i've just changed my boards to felt CP ones, they are all at child level and they have access to pieces of velcro and make their own displays, no more adult perfect boards at adult height. I am also putting up some blank canvases painted with blackboard paint and magnolia paint so that children can create their own art gallery using chalk and pastels (more alistair bryce-clegg)
AnonyMouse_19920 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 we use wall paper too - we find it in the end of rolls basket so is usually only pound or two x
AnonyMouse_3735 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 we painted the boards.. saved us a lot of work each time replacing it. fire officer liked it too..
AnonyMouse_2418 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 We get our hessian from a furniture supplier on EBay - it has to be fire retardant as it is used for sofas etc. and is quite cheap as it lasts ( ours has been up two years now ) :1b 1
Guest Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I sometimes use brown parcel wrap, with a black border. :1b
