Guest
Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has an effective system in place for this? and if so would you be willing to share how you do it? mrsb
AnonyMouse_11396
Hi can you please elaborate what you mean by this. If you mean having an additional person as a substitute if a person's not in or child has increased sessions and keyperson isn't in those day we have a stand in keyperson. All our staff know our children really well anyway. Not sure if thats what your asking or not. :1b
AnonyMouse_44055
We have the same staff for all sessions except for in the case of illness or rare occassions when someone is on a course so we don't rotate our key person allocation as there is no reason to do so. Are you in a day nursery where staff work variable shifts? When my daughter was in nursery there was no official back up key person but it was apparent that the other main staff members for the room she was in knew her really well and worked well with her in the key persons absence. AnonyMouse_2418
We get round this by having two key person's per group , and most of the time at least one of them is around, so it gives the children continuity, but all of the staff know the children as we are in one large area together. :1b
Guest
sorry ladies I seem to have mislead you with this.....the rolling programme is a system where each week the key person has a focus child. We have used this kind of system for the last two terms but just wondered if anyone else was familiar with this. our first 6weeks has been collecting evidence from post it observations, photographs, work and information from parents...this evidence will help put their next steps together and then the rolling programme will be used as each week a child will be focused on (but obviously still observing other children for those WOW moments).....hope this makes sense lol!!! AnonyMouse_19802
Hmm yes get that.......first I thought it was a brilliant invention.....keyworker on wheels who can be rolled in and out when needed! Yes we are doing as you describe 6 wks assessment, gathering information on each child and then we will all pick a focus child each week to.......focus on! Sounds like a plan.......hope it works, cos we're getting to the bottom of the 'Ideas to Make This Work' bin! Theres a lot of screwed up pieces of paper in there........ : / Has it been good for you Mrsb?
AnonyMouse_834
It was suggested to us that we divide the children into focus weeks over a period of time ie half termly and we were told that as long as we pick them up once during this time then thats fine, ie in our preschool we have 30 children divide by 6 weeks means 5 children get focused on each week. During their focus week we plan enhancements and activities to suppoer their next steps and carry out a long observation too and from this we plan the next steps

AnonyMouse_834
Not all the children are in all the time so we have a list of who is in each day then yes we plan enhancements to workshop areas and activities for those children. It may be that the key person is doing a mini activity with their key child in which case she will observe. Keyperson will do a long observation on their key child during this week. But everyone knows who the focus children are and we observe and play and give obs to keyperson
