AnonyMouse_4177 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Big, medium, small - as in lanterns -we made some out of different sized cartons for children to order by size, sort same sizes. Bear detectives- hide big/small bears around setting for children to find, more big or small bears? We used clipboards with pictures (we're nursery) but could use words big/small. Another day hide the lanterns-challenge children to find one of each size. Make paw prints -follow the trail, where does it go/what's at end of trail? We put different sorts of bears such as a polar bear/brown bear etc in a box at end of trail - how many did you find at end of trail? Make bear paw prints in sand or with paint - we had potato cut out paw(ish) shapes -big and little, children had to match to bear out in painting area. Any good? Posy
Guest Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 The children could independently decorate and colour in bear masks and cut them out, and also make a cosy place for a bear to sleep using plastic bear toys or soft teddies- using fabric, found objects from outside- leaves, twigs etc. I found an activity today on topic box- under FS- mathematics- with a teddy bear the children have to give the bear the amount of sweets out of the jar onto his tummy- good use of ICT- click and drag and also no. recog. and counting. Do you have compare bears the children could possible make patterns- repeating of size- big, small, big, small, or even with 3 colours. Hope that might be use to you. Lou
AnonyMouse_45342 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 We are just finishing the same topic! We have created a dark cave in the role play area with mirrors and torches for the children to explore. We linked to light and dark and also watched a short clip called the lighthouse (on the website The Literacy shed). We had lots of discussion about what might happen and worked with talk partners . Adults scribed the childrens ideas. The children did some chalk and pastel pictures of lighthouses. The children also looked for things which give us light in catalogues and magazines for cutting and sticking. Lots of work on sizes - little bear, big bear, lanterns etc. We also made and decorated paper lanterns. The children all cut out and decorated a star for the outside of the role play area too. it's a lovely topic and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it... Hope that helps.
Guest Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 hi thank u so much for your ideas.. we have done lots of size in the previous topic at ther start of the half term. Trying to think of activbities which are one more/one less and writing numbers? the thing is this school has high expectations with activities, thanks for the bear detectives idea..imight develop that a little and get them to see how many bears they can find and write the number. really appreciate it. x
