AnonyMouse_6541 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Ive been given some money to improve and enhance our small construction for 2-5yrs (plus up to 11 years will use it) and was given Mobilo or duplo as suggestion, but looking through im not that keen on Mobilo. We have some duplo, kid knex, stickle brix... but only basic sets. We need something with wheels etc. I was wondering what everyones opinions are on sets out there... are there any that you would recommend and why? Thanks :1b
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Ours love all the bits that go with Duplo. We have a hospital, fire station, police station, vehicles, helicopters etc. We do use Mobilo quite a bit but its quite hard to fix together so tends to be used by 4 years and over. We also use wooden blocks, (large and small) a lot.
AnonyMouse_19762 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Mine love lego - as in 'little lego' as opposed to duplo........obviously does need a little adult supervision as some of it is very small - but to date (hope I'm not tempting fate here ) none has been eaten or shoved up noses or in ears! 2
AnonyMouse_7120 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Ours love the mobilo and the simple instruction cards really enhance learning....looking at quantities they need of which piece/shape and thinking about the order it goes together, but as beehive said more used by 3-4+ year olds. The duplo hospital, fire, police station are also a firm favourite, magnetico is nice and easy for 2-3 year olds and for any physical sen needs.
AnonyMouse_21338 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 duplo toolo - ours looooovvvveeee it..... mobilo.....
AnonyMouse_7677 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 if looking for something with wheels try 'interstar', fits together easily and children love it! 1
AnonyMouse_7120 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Meant to add ....avoid duplo experiment..need 6 hands to join together..doesn't stay together, very frustrating for adults let alone the children
Guest Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 our 3 year olds love mobilo and with tiny bit of support to start of year, can manage from then on. and pictures are great for planning what to make and selecting pieces needed. and have wheels. and older ones would still enjoy. or galt marble run. we bought 2 sets. but 3+ in ours so don't know if marbles ok with 2 year olds. but it is soooo good for problem-solving and i enjoy making them so juniors would love it. x
AnonyMouse_1469 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Ours really love Community Playthings mini blocks. They can be used on table tops, but they prefer to have them down at floor level. They get used for countless games and are excellent value for money imho. Or unit blocks...........or hollow blocks............or mini hollow blocks..................or blocks....wooden, tactile blocks, a feel and a smell that plastic will never have..........
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 we have blocks big, small, natural and coloured which we use in all ways , alone or to enhance small world or for big builds. ours also love mobilo and interstar i cut the accompanying brochure and laminated models for children to copy and inspire them to make. Duplo we have several sets but they dont seem to like this as much , we also have k-nex which they love and really need to add to. Popoids are a firm favourite and yesterday i put out without the connectors to see how long someone noticed !! we also have what we call big build , lots of wheels and nuts and screws with boxes ( liken to large plastic meccano) they love making trains and ride on them around hall.
