AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 can anyone recommend a tape dispenser that doesn't cut the childrens fingers off...but does cut the tape! I really want to encourage waste craft next term but tape issues always seem to arise!!
Guest Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I tend to use a lot of masking tape as it can be torn by hand and will easily peel off anything that also gets 'stuck' like books, door handles, plants, soft toys and staff!!!
AnonyMouse_13453 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Yes me too. I have some scotch tape dispensers, and they seem ok though. Children learn to use them safely, like they do scissors and saws and hammers
AnonyMouse_4619 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 we also use parcel tape - the sort you have to get wet and then it sticks really well. Good for junk modelling
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 thanks all...yes have masking tape but also have coloured tape which needs cutting. Despite lots of training they still seem to cut themselves on the tape dispensers Cait, I know teacher tom made a fab dispenser but i haven't got the time at the mo perhaps i'll just have to persuade a helpful parent.
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 We use Staples own brand tape dispensers and haven't had any accidents...yet! They are weighted with sand so don't move around. Also (a big plus for us) the 'spool' bit that holds the sellotape in place is fixed to the dispenser so you can't lose it. We used to use Scotch Tape ones but were always losing that middle bit!
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I saw one at another nursery which was wooden had severals rolls of different tapes on and no children hurt themselves whilst i was there !! if i find out where it came from will let you know
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 as discussing this I wonder if you could improvise with a kitchen roll holder that should be mounted but not , so could be used for tape

AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 as discussing this I wonder if you could improvise with a kitchen roll holder that should be mounted but not , so could be used for tape this is what teacher tom does....i'll try and find his post!

AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 this is what teacher tom does....i'll try and find his post! I had already looked at his but its made from pipe and has to be taped to surface but still clever
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 i've just been wondering about getting two kitchen roll dispensers and attaching to a board....might work???
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 i've just been wondering about getting two kitchen roll dispensers and attaching to a board....might work??? if you get one wooden wall mountable one lay on table and then attach a small board and serated edge from a tin foil or cling film box - hard to describe what i mean so will try and make one this week and post picture
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 if you get one wooden wall mountable one lay on table and then attach a small board and serated edge from a tin foil or cling film box - hard to describe what i mean so will try and make one this week and post picture it's the serated bit they cut themselves on ...so i was just thinking about the first one to hold the tape (removable roller on kitchen roll holder) then another one in front to stick the tape to so that you can then just cut it....does that make sense???
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 £3.99 on amazon hope you get what i mean 1
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 yes that makes sense so therefore use small bracket to attach two together at bases
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 fab ...just what i was thinking (hey if it works we can go in to production! might be the start of something wonderful!
AnonyMouse_39602 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I was just thinking the same FM - we could be on Dragons Den 1
AnonyMouse_26037 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I was just thinking the same FM - we could be on Dragons Den I'm in!
AnonyMouse_3735 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 and don't forget to chain a pair of scissors to it so they are always there... The pipe one could also be attached to a piece of wood so it is portable and if needed a clamp for keeping it in place on a table..
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 where did you find that????? typical i think of a good idea and someone beats me to it!! 1
