Guest
Hi everyone, I am starting to think about September and wondered how everyone sorted the settling period in Reception? We currently do home visits then settle mornings and then move to full time after a few weeks with 10 children each day on their first day. Just wondered how everyone approached this? Thanks
Guest
Sadly, our parents voted out home visits and a staggered start about 5 years ago. We are an independent school so have smaller classes of 20-22 but they are in full-time from the first day. By week 4 the children are completely flaked out! Last year we offered home visits in the summer term - no takers. We offer the chance to collect before or after lunch for the first 2 weeks. Usually one or two go for that until they realise the majority stay. It is such a shame. Apart from the children, staff don t get to build relationships with families. We re having a rethink for July and September too.
AnonyMouse_11396
Oh what a shame about the home visits. We are a pre-school so slightly different but we introduced them last summer with a 99% take up. We then asked through a questionnaire whether parents felt they were useful and all said yes. Two staff go, one being the keyperson, who plays with the child, the other Senior Practitioner goes through all the paperwork, listens to any concerns, special needs etc.
