Anyone know where we can hire incubator in Surrey cheaply?

Hi all,

In previous years we have always used the living egg company and every year enjoyed seeing the eggs hatch - my Head has decided that this is now too expensive and said we can't do it this year (£250 for the package)

Does anyone know of any local farms or anywhere that hire out incubators in the Surrey/ Hampshire area that do it cheaper?

We bought ours online from The Incubator Shop. It was £69.95 and we got a brooder too to keep the chicks warm rather than a big heat lamp, which is what we used to use. Its some outlay to begin with but then you'll have them every year. They were easy to order and arrived the next day. I think the Living Egg Company is a bit extortionate!

we are just doing this right now for the first time ever, at our setting. Lovely chap from a local farm brought all the equipment , including eggs, and he's been back to check we're ok, all for £75. First chick kicked its way out of the shell today.....................lots of excitement,so hopefully there might be more when we go in tomorrow. we decided long ago that we couldn't justify using the living egg company, and this chap phoned us up. I'm feeling quite 'clucky' today

It's such a lovely experience for everyone. We've been hatching chicks for a few years now and this year for the first time we're hatching ducklings. They went into the incubator last week but take a bit longer than chicks. They're due to hatch on 8th May. Quack quack!

We did Living Eggs last year and it was lovely - but as has been said is v. expensive. We have put out a letter this term asking for donations to meet the cost - if we get enough we will do it again this term.

 

Have thought about getting own equipment but worry about what to do with the chicks (especially the boys) when the project has run it's course - Living eggs literature says that all chicks including the boys go to good homes if setting (or parents and staff) don't want to keep them and are not used as raptor food etc.

 

What do others do with the chicks when they are no longer cute and fluffy?

We kept three girls two years ago and would have kept one last year too, but our three existing ones didn't take too kindly to a newbie.

We are in a rural market town so our families always take them. We usually have a waiting list! :1b
