AnonyMouse_79 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Spots on a ladybird--6 spots altogether so 3 on one side and 3 on the other. I do think you need to make sure children understand that the halves should be the same, not just an apple cut into 2 unequal pieces/ halves. Likewise half full could be inaccurate.
Guest Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 thanks susan I'm just a little stuck. We have been doing doubling this week and we used ladybirds. Just wondering what else i could do for halves. Never taught this before.
AnonyMouse_3307 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 How about approaching it from a sharing a quantity into 2 equal quantities. Prediction, reverse of doubling.....
Guest Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Could you do something (extend) with mirror images ... or is that just complicating things?!
AnonyMouse_3735 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 The little mouse , the red strawberry and big hungry bear this story has the mouse sharing ... I used to have a prop bag that included a strawberry to share. Not really an activity but the children used to like it and it may be a start for halving fruit..
AnonyMouse_26037 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Just doing my planning for next week and we're doing some halving too. As we've been looking at yeast, bread and by extension baking in general I'm going to have playdough cakes and put half the decorations (counters, buttons, etc) on each cake.
