Ofsted Consultation re revising inspection for Early Years Providers

Ofsted have just released the following consultation http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/good-early-years-provision-for-all . This links into the consultations that the DfE have been releasing whereby Ofsted are the sole decision maker around whether an EY Provider is registered and therefore able to receive the Early Years Funding.

We would urge you to respond to this consultation as a Provider and/or as individuals.

Please find below a condensed list of the proposed changes taken from the consultation document:

Proposals for changes to the inspection of early years providers

14. From September 2013, we propose that:

n a single judgement of ‘requires improvement’ will replace the current ‘satisfactory’ judgement for all early years providers

n early years non-domestic settings judged as ‘requires improvement’ will be the subject of a full re-inspection within two years; they will have a maximum of four years to become good

n where an early years non-domestic setting fails to become ‘good’ following two consecutive inspections, we propose that this would be likely to lead to an ‘inadequate’ judgement and subject to the monitoring arrangements as set in the early years inspection framework

n where any inadequate early years setting has failed to improve sufficiently and is still judged to be inadequate when reinspected, it is likely that we may take steps to cancel that setting’s registration.

think this topic is linked... here about tougher inspections...

a big concern for me would be how many of these inspectors are fully EY trained and understand the complexities of running such a setting... as well as the lack of a level playing field with other settings that get notice.. for the same inspection.
