Outdoor resources for wet/windy days

Recommended Posts

Hi All

We have been given some money to purchase resources for our outdoor area.

We feel we have lots of lovely things for outdoors when its nice and dry outside but would like to purchase some things to use when its wet or windy.

What do you use outside on these days?

Thanks

we have a basic windy box which we're developing. we have chimes in it, pin wheels, ribbon wands, carrier bags and string to make kites. can't think what else - been a long day.. x

Another is to cut up and tape together pieces of crepe paper and attach them to sticks and watch them move in the wind when held high.

Though that doesn't cost much either...

For rain I can of course recommend puddles, with a lining up element where the first child runs and jumps in with feet together to make

an impressive splash and then goes to the end of the line.

For spending money on wet days there is no better investment than good rain clothes!

We used our sainsburys vouchers to get ribbon rings and also a large set of movement cubes with clear pockets on and lots of different ideas for encouraging different movements e.g., run, walk, hop, jump, as well as be a butterfly, a dinosaur that type of thing - these are in the current catalogue if you have vouchers to spend.

colouring and oils to put in puddles, metal trays to listen to the rain, measuring cups (we would have filled all ours to the top if they had been out in the thunderstorm we had last week), ASDa have super wind socks, a plop bucket, boats for sailing in puddles and of course ducks, a large groundsheet to collect water on - even better put a hole in the middle and hang it above the children for the water to drip through.
