Guest hazmam Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hi! I know last year was hard to get a true 'baseline' with children coming into Reception with the change of curriculum. I am thinking of sending the parents a questionnaire to give me additional info as children come in from a lot of different nursery settings and information varies a lot. Has anyone done this and can share? I feel as though I want to cover the 7 areas too. Thanks!
Guest Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I know information can vary but it worth using the information to inform baseline. Settings in some cases have had children for a number of years.Having been in school and in nursery I know how hard we work to provided information for schools that they could value more. Judgements for baselines in school are sometimes made to quickly and children are still settling in. The final judgements in nursery are based on a long period of time and on a child who is familiar with their enviroment. I also know some schools are doing worksheet based baselines and this is something children from nursery are unfamiliar with. Maybe its worth sharing your baseline with settings so that the information is more in line with what you require. It shows that we are all working together which is really what parents are looking for a shared transistion. In a good setting parents will have been involved in learning journeys over a long period of time. They come to value them and from our feedback from parents they are shocked to find schools dont value them even when parents want to share them.

Guest hazmam Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks millhill! We have 10 different settings feeding into our Reception this year. Some settings are fantastic but some aren't, which is a shame. I found with my own son that he used to like doing other things at home than at nursery too. Am really going to try to include parents more this year.
