Guest
Hi, We are having an Arctic Theme at Nursery next week and wondered if any of you would like to share your ideas? We have set up an Arctic Small World area and decorated our circus tent to look like an Igloo. Have lots of books and photos up around the setting. Any activity ideasyou may have would be fab. Thank you in advance.
AnonyMouse_14268
We printed some spotter sheets of arctic animals and then placed toy animals in fake snow and ice in the tuff spot for them to find. It really gave the boys a reason to mark make when they had found the animal they ticked it off.
AnonyMouse_14268
Is your arctic theme in response to the current weather conditions and temperature?? Its horrible here today, so much for summer!!
AnonyMouse_19135
We filled some duplo blocks with water and froze them then added the blocks to the tuff tray with some animals for the children to explore and build with, under supervision we added salt to help the blocks stick together - a huge tip though is you need to stand the blocks in water before trying to get the ice out as it is near impossible otherwise! Guest
I would be starting from the provocation for looking at the Arctic. What was it that sparked the childrens interest and work from that. Was it the weather or igloos or maybe the animals found there? Maybe if you could give us some more background info then I'm sure someone on here will have some wonderful ideas for you. We did look at the igloos a couple of years ago as an offshoot from a childs interest in building houses ( her dad was a builder) and we ended up building our own igloo out of empty 4 pint milk bottles Edited June 22, 2013 by max321
AnonyMouse_2732
Hi, Have you done a Forum search? That should bring something up as this has been discussed before. You could also have a look in the Topics section.
Guest
Thank you for your ideas. mrsbat your duplo idea is fab we'll definitely be doing that with the children. We're stuck for ideas as to what to make with children for expressive art. Max321 we've been looking at different animals and where they come from and the children have been asking about polar bears and penguins so we thought we'd tell them a bit more about the arctic and other animals there etc.
