advice on planning - how to get a balance!

Recommended Posts

Would love some advice on how you ensure that there is a balance of adult led and child led activities available to the children. How do people plan for both these opportunities. Looking to review the planning but not sure how. Need to make it more manageable. I would be grateful for any advice!

Thanks

We've struggled with this for a few months.

We are trialing following the childrens preferences as a loose theme but having activities we have chosen for the first part of the session.

All activities are offered everyday so the children have time to repeat.

The last hour of each session is free play with no adult led activities.

Unsure if this is right but so far it's working well!

we work in a similar way and thought it was working well. However just to say that it has been pointed out to me that it is working well but we need to make it clearer with the whole cycle that goes in to planning. So it needs to be very clear the assessment of children, analysis of this, the feeding into planning and then progress that children make.

Our whole session is free play. Any adult led activities happen during the session and are alongside freeplay e.g around a table in the room, so children can choose whether to be involved or continue their play. Works well for us.

We used to do this but found some children would never choose to come to the adult led table, hence us trying the new way.

It's working well so far ;)
