AnonyMouse_11396
Omg so where are we supposed to find that money each year. Is this the end of committee run groups now. We have always been thrilled to have a healthy cohort of members but seriously £50.00+ Capitas admin fee is going to have a great impact on our finances.:(
AnonyMouse_13453
Ok, right. So we have to use Capita. There's no point registering with anyone else then!
AnonyMouse_3139
I've just emailed them two questions; where is the guidance relating to how volunteers apply and are they suggesting that committee members, trustees and registered person have to pay considering they are volunteers.

AnonyMouse_6721
I must be a bit slow on this, must be all that end of year activities. I have only just thought of getting committee members checked. Do we really have to pay for them?
AnonyMouse_3139
That's what I want clarified Diesel, they have never incurred a charge before but this isn't very clear now.
AnonyMouse_39602
regarding payment for volunteers - its in the other thread - Capita informed me it was £7.50 as only admin charges apply to them - hope that helps

AnonyMouse_3139
Answer to my email!! Thank you for your email. Ofsted have stated in the past that committee members, treasures and trustees, etc are not entitled to volunteer status. This policy is currently under review by Ofsted. Until further notice, volunteers within these positions are therefore not entitled to a free DBS disclosure. If you require any further information, please contact Ofsted directly via the following email address: enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk. AnonyMouse_11396
Sorry lashes can you point me to where it clearly states this please, have looked on other thread and am not seeing it. Thanks:) Fx
AnonyMouse_11396
Now Rea I'm totally confused, as our setting is run by a committee of volunteer trustees, members, and have never ever paid for enhanced disclosures.
AnonyMouse_31752
so are Ofsted used to hold the details of managers and committee on their system and when I was checked I was told I would not be able to get checked every three years like the other staff as Ofsted hold my details no one would do it and Ofsted would instantly be told if I did anything to cause concern. With them developing sloping shoulders approach to DBS checks for committee what happens to those of us who think we are 'checked' as we are on their system does this still apply?? AnonyMouse_3735
I have to wonder why the committee etc are not volunteers, They cannot take nay payment for their services.. yet are not classed as volunteers.. Fredbear.. in the past committee was done via Ofsted and government paid for the checks... it is stated on the link Rea gave above. It is one way to close a lot of settings ...and then say it was not their fault... we would have a committee of a minimum of 5.. who would change annually as children moved on from the setting... often had 7 so we could have the 5 at each meeting , not all could attend every one.. and it alos says no paper copies will be considered... so who has to pay for or find the internet / pc etc to allow this to happen... I know many may have the connection etc.. but not all are internet savvy.. or have it at hand to do. so many ways I can see that could prevent some form applying.. AnonyMouse_3139
I agree Inge, it seems yet another obstacle in the pvi path. Fredbear, we've never been charged for committee either. Does anyone, anywhere know what's going on or is it just a case of cause enough chaos and we'll pack it in thereby leaving the way clear for all children to go from the womb to the school Edited July 2, 2013 by Rea
AnonyMouse_19762
It is one way to close a lot of settings ...and then say it was not their fault... Hmmm.........have I ever shared my 'Conspiracy theory' about this
AnonyMouse_11396
I understand that Ofsted used to do them and now they will be dealt with by Capita alone, what I don't understand is Rea's reply from Ofsted to say that they have not had volunteer status in the past, and this is under review. So their not employed, they do it to support settings and now we are going to be charged for the privilege. Great, I can feel another petition on its way.
Guest
To me it smacks of yet more "we don't really know what these committee run groups do/are". And sadly that makes me feel that they aren't really bothered about us (I can't stop being one just because we closed!) and yes, if we go that won't be too bad for them because we are just different and not what they understand. I sadly also have the same impression from our LA from time to time.
AnonyMouse_19762
Apologies if this is a stupid question  do your committee members actually spend time in your settings? (I'm not committee run and have no experience in this area)
AnonyMouse_3139
No. I sometimes pop in and other committee in the past have been there as parents or on fundraising events. They might also be the first port of call if staff we're absent, but that was a few years ago anyway. Edited July 2, 2013 by Rea
AnonyMouse_30128
ok so all the people that used to be registerd through ofsted for crb's now have to do this through the web link to Capita and all staff through your regular registered body (for us TMG) We were always told that we would have to pay for these eventually what annoys me is that they suddenly spring it on you so that there is no way you can budget for it or organise to sort it out (just to reiterate the ofsted website says quite clearly that 3 year checks are a myth and they have never asked for them!) So i guess this means that i will only dbs the trustees that i have to ...can i have others on the governing body that are not registered i wonder?...are schools having to pay too? That's what I was 'getting at' - if committee members/trustees are not spending time in settings is this really necessary/required? Perhaps I should just 'mind my own' - don't want to muddy the waters here with my inane questions......... For those of us without committees and with no new staff we need take no action - is that right? AnonyMouse_3139
I know some years ago a lady who was treasurer at the Birmingham branch of PLA complained at having to have a CRB as she never went to settings, but was told it was I case she saw a Childs name!
