Guest Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Hi, Would like to hear some other people's ideas on this. Do you give your 'new' Reception children anything to do through the summer? Or give the parents anything to help prepare them for school? Do you send anything home to the children through the summer? Thanks
Guest Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 This year for the first time I have asked the children to make a treasure chest from a shoe box and collect their treasures from the summer holidays in it so that we can talk about it in September. Deb
Guest Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 We have given them sunflower seeds. 'From seedlings to sunflowers'. They've got to paint or draw their sunflower and email a photo of them next to it so we can make a class display which everyone is part of. We have 16 feeder settings. I know of another school who asks them to plant pumpkins and then dig them up at harvest festival.
AnonyMouse_47127 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Hi We give a white paper lunch bag with a few craft things int he bottom. We ask them to decorate the bag and put in it some things from the summer holidays that they would like to share with the class when they get back. For example tickets to places they have visited, a shell from the beach etc. We then display the bags with a photo of the child and their objects first week back and record sound buttons so other children can listen to their news.
