Guest
Each child makes a handprint first week in school (Reception), we add their name and a small photo. Children find their hand each day and attach it to self reg board (velcro). Parents quite like this routine too. Later in day we count to see how many people at school/absent. Have them in rows of 10 so by end of year they are confidently counting 10,20, 21,21,23 or whatever (have a class of 30). More able, at end of year can tell me straightaway '26 at school because I can see 6 hands on the bottom row and 2 rows of 10'. Exceeding children see 3 gaps and instantly know that means 27 at school. (Emerging at end of year still need support counting 1:1....)
