Guest Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Hi I am doing my PGCE and I am working in a nursery. I have got to do the topic birthdays and plan activites around the different areas of learning has anyone got any ideas please.
AnonyMouse_2760 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 (edited) Birthdays is a lovey topic to do and you will find that you can get loads out of it. You dont say how long your placement is for so I am presuming its for about weeks starting after half term? Do yourself a planning grid with each of the areas and number your weeks then I would begin to add initial ideas as you think of them. Obviously there is singing happy birthday, wrapping parcels, pattern and shape work, ordering birthday candles, making cards and invitations, decorating cakes, playing pass the parcel, making party hats, you can get loads of shape work done with party food, (triangles for sandwiches etc.. play party games have a party for a toy, make party hats for the toys. Make jellies etc.. check out this site for a unit of work on birthdays for some ideas too http://www.teachingheart.net/Birthdayunit.html btw... Kipper's Birthday is a good storty book to use.
