Guest
I've chosen 'uses talk in pretending that objects stand for something else' for my key child's next step as he is only just beginning to communicate with words and enjoys imaginative play. But now I'm a bit stumped as to what opportunities I could actually offer him to help him achieve this. Does anyone have any ideas?
AnonyMouse_19762
A group of 'my' boys demonstrated this in the Small World area this morning :1b
AnonyMouse_11396
Ok so you could have a telephone in the role play area, as well as another prop say a " banana" you could demonstrate using the " banana as a phone and make a pretend call. Think about your resources I'm sure you probably have many that could replicate this.

Guest
How can I encourage the talk aspect of these ideas though? Great props ideas, thanks!
AnonyMouse_19782
Does this child not say much at all, just do? I generally say things like gosh I'd love a cup of tea anyone making one when I'm at the sandpit and engage in conversation that way - it's too hot how can I cool it down? What's this you are giving me? Where's the sugar, any cake? After a few times I generally find that they are more forthcoming.
