The Great War?

Recommended Posts

what do you think?? Several villages around where I live are planning to sow red poppies ready for next year, the Centenary of The Great War, World War 1. It's a simple, low-cost tribute to the fallen of all wars and I am writing to my parish council to ask them to consider it. I am also going to sow lots in my garden and at my setting. In Flanders fields, the poppies grow..........................can they grow in YOUR neighbourhood/preschool/school/nursery ??

I had a conversation a few weeks back with Mr S and said "we need to grow poppies next year" - I thought it was my idea - but bet it had crept in from something that I had read........anyway I think it's the best idea whoever it belongs to! :1b

This Armistice day our village is (at last) having a war memorial erected/dedicated........when this was being discussed at Parish Council meetings - the idea was raised that one side would need to be left 'un-engraved' (think I just invented that word) to enable there being enough space to allow for the names of the fallen from our village in present and/or future conflicts - shudder moment that.

What a wonderful Idea, as a playgroup we have been involved with rememberance day for a couple of years, making poppy wreaths and poppies to distribute. As a gardener I love this idea and will start collecting seed heads tomorrow.
