Interesting debate about using unqualified teachers in free schools. Liz Truss says free schools get better inspection results and they do this by bringing in people who are experts in their fields who are not necessarily qualified teachers. So my question is, why bother with teacher training at all?

Lets save a stash of cash and just not bother as clearly the only important skill for a teacher is subject knowledge.

I shouldn't have even opened this thread.

I'm going to go to bed before I burst a blood vessel

Here we go .

Another opportunity to under value teachers and all the wonderful skills they require to do this challenging role.

Yes I agree having expertise input from other professionals could be a great asset to a school, but taking a class everyday is a completely different ball game.

Maybe she will would like to try it.:(

did not watch it.. but

if this is the case is it not a huge double standards... what they are asking of all the preschools with their experts in their fields being forced to do more in qualifications and have a 'teacher' to run them.. Not getting at teachers here.. just the double standards.. and how many settings have done so well for many years, becoming experts and getting sidelined.

pity we could not all set up as free schools then we would be able to do what we wanted in staffing, curriculum and care, trouble is they would remove our funding!
