Using an IWB

Hello everyone

I have recently had a new IWB (Smartboard) fitted in my nursery classroom and am a little daunted by it! I need to start using it with the children; does anyone have any great ideas for ways to use this? I would like to use it for the children to write their names but would love to hear what others do!

It's great for letting the children write their names on. You can write it then they can go over the top. Great for doing lessons on to and using powerpoints to show the children things. On ours we do self registration in the mornings. The children love that. An also just use it for normal computer programmes that the children are able to access.

Good luck!

We use ours to play videos of the children taken during the session or of previous things they've done. Sometimes we put photos of things they've done with us.

We also use it to watch educational items so they can see how others celebrate things like Chinese nw yr.

Then there's interactive educational games and sometimes stories;)

Once we even ran a movie morning with popcorn (we did check with parents first)

Am in Nursery in a FSU with Reception class and we use ours all the time as people have mentioned above but there are some absolutely fantastic interactive resources available online and most of them free! Ours always love Revelation Art (or some form of 'paint' programme) for free/ focussed mark-making.

We currently have ours set up this week to link to the Light/ Dark topic (Diwali/ Bonfire Night) with TES iBoard for firework and rocket counting/ shape games, a virtual firework display and a virtual sparkler (great for mark-making/ writing)! Children are loving this! Have used it to display some boogie beebies videos on bollywood dancing to support our music area which currently has lots of ribbons/ scarves/ skirts/ bells/ shakers/ drums etc etc.

Have a browse online and you will be amazed what there is available (and simple to use! :D )

Here are a few to have a mooch through (and a play to test them out) try TES too (free to register and use)

See if you can get an interactive 'curtain' which is fun for hiding/ revealing part of a picture e.g. shape recognition

Have fun playing! B)

We use ours all the time as well, some things have already been mentioned above, e.g. for films about festivals from cbeebies or youtube, a cinema (we had popcorn too!) - we numbered the chairs and gave children a numbered ticket - they had to match to the correct chair and then watched 'Come Outside'. It has also been a shadow theatre, a drawing board, key groups look at their LJs on it, yesterday we had a drop-in Bhangra dancing workshop displaying an instruction video on it .... the possibilities are endless.

Thanks for the great links ExtraordinaryChicken - I must get onto TES iBoard and check out that virtual sparkler!

Quite alright! :) oh the virtual fireworks is the top link, sorry will try edit now and second link is for the virtual sparkler- they're great fun! Had virtual fireworks as a welcome activity for my morning group today, which they loved.

Love the cinema idea- my unit said they did that last year too with Christmas films- am excited for this! (prob more than the kids will be lol)
