We just mix all the seeds together with it squishing it all together then we make it into balls and put in fridge to set and use it as you would fat balls. Block margarine etc is also not good for birds.. birds need high levels of saturated fat, such as raw suet and lard. They need the high energy content to keep warm in the worst of the winter weather, since their body reserves are quickly used up, particularly on cold winter nights. Make four holes in the bottom and thread two sticks through for perches. Guess who is going to be up to their ears in peanut butter tomorrow!! I normally do the lard bird feeder, although I did try making one out of an orange juice carton once and that was quite successful but I can't remember where I got the instructions from.
