Bird feeder

W ell it needs to be lard that you use. We just mix all the seeds together with it squishing it all together then we make it into balls and put in fridge to set and use it as you would fat balls. If you want something to hang up, Ido have a cooked recipe I can look out for you.

 

Also have you tried RSPB site?

Ah. I did not know that! I wonder what it has in it? Could block margarine substitute?

 

Could you bake seedy biscuits?

Block margarine etc is also not good for birds..

birds need high levels of saturated fat, such as raw suet and lard. They need the high energy content to keep warm in the worst of the winter weather, since their body reserves are quickly used up, particularly on cold winter nights. The softer fats can easily be smeared onto the feathers, destroying the waterproofing and insulating qualities.
