Guest
Can anyone provide a simple rhyme about fireworks for us to use for our rhyme of the week after our 2-week half term? [Yes, I know!!] I've looked on the Northumberland GFL site, and the American Rhyme a Week, both of which I often use, but there's nothing. Anything else I've found has been far too wordy for this age group, especially as we have the little ones in with the preschoolers. I would really appreciate your suggestions. 4 - 8 lines maximum would be ideal.
AnonyMouse_3139
Googled and found this Also found a rhyme on CBeebies site. Firework party the best by far We all go Ooh We all go Ah. Fireworks go zeeee-oooo Fireworks go zeeee-oooo and crackle, crackle, crackle and sparkle, sparkle, sparkle. Firework party the best by far We all go Ooh We all go Ah. Colours in the air Colours everywhere Over my head an explosion of red Look have you seen a great flame of green and the sparklers we hold spit silver and gold. Firework party the best by far We all go Ooh We all go Ah. But while I love the rest I love the rockets best Firework fuse fizzes, fizzes, fizzes Then pweeee, up it whizzes Watch it climbing, climbing high and then the loudest sound Firework party the best by far We all go Ooh We all go Ah. Cant help with the sounds though, you may need to practice in the bathroom mirror.
Guest
One huge firework Looking rather dull and blue. Then it went WHOOSH And how the sparks flew! Red and green and gold stars Falling through the sky. Ending eith a great big bang And then a little ss-sigh. My children like this but I don't know where I originally found it. Guest
Thank you Rea & Deb - they both look promising! Here's one I found in a Scolastic book but it's just a bit too wordy. Someone else might appreciate it though. Bonfire Night Whoosh go the rockets, green and gold and red, Bang, bang, bang, bang, exploding overhead. Fizz go the fireworks, showering the ground, Whizz go the Catherine wheels, whirling round and round. The roar of the fire, the crackle of the flames, See the silver sparklers hissing out our names. Listen to the air bombs whee into the sky. The sights and sounds of Bonfire Night. Lesley Funge

Guest
Wait for the evening, cool and dark. wait for the fizzle, wait for the spark. Whizz, crackle, bang! Just watch us go, golden rain and sparkling snow. Whizz, crackly, bang! in the big, blue night, making colours for your delight. Whizz, crackle, bang! as we rush up high, exploding colours across the sky. Written by Tony Mitton
AnonyMouse_1208
Just had this suggestion from TES Staffroom - number song to the tune of 10 green bottles. Made some numeral cards to go on numberline too. Picture of rocket isn't very good so if anyone has a better one could you please post it? P.S. Was originally in Publisher but couldn't upload it so copied into Word so you won't be able to edit it.

Guest
Hi, Love all the rhymes. Thanks for sharing your rockets Magenta, i shall definitely use them during the week. I have attached a firework lotto game I have just made. I saw this ideas suggested in a book. Basically, you say the noises and the children tell you the sounds they can hear at the beginning, middle and end. Hope it's useful to someone. Guest
Magenta, thanks for the firework rhyme. I've altered it to 5 Little Fireworks for my children as I don't think they have the patience for 10! I also had to alter the rocket pictures as the originals would not cut and paste. I had intended to attach the altered rhyme to share with those of you with younger children, but the attachment would not upload, sorry. Wrong file name or something? Guest
Magenta, thank you so much for your firework attachment. I printed it off and laminated it along with the poem and our pre-school really loved it. We were all exhausted after a week of singing it over and over, but wow, excellent learning opportunity - it flowed over into our PE activity too with the children lining up and being the rockets, or whatever kind of firework they chose. Thanks again! Keep posting such great stuff.
