Its thought povoking, isnt it? But, I think as teachers we probably use a little bit of everything with our children to suit their needs?

Ive never worked in a school with enough phonic readers to ensure that was a sole approach.

There are always some children who are more suited to reading books with more sight words in them rather than decodable words, so although we teach phonics I hope we are able to suit children's individual needs. I do think the year one phonics test would be much better if the children read real decodable words instead of pseudo ones, as I'm not convinced that reading nonsense words is going to help with reading or spelling. But hey what do I know :-)
