Hi I was thinking of doing some poems for the first week back after half term linked to bonfire night, and lots of lovely art work to go with it. does anyone know of a poem, song or story for bonfire night??

Also any songs about sleeping / hibernation??

Hi Charlotte

There is a series of books about a rabbit and a hedgehog by Paul Stewart and Christopher Riddell. One is called "A little bit of winter". Hedgehog wants rabbit to save a little bit of winter for him while he hibernates. They are a lovely series of books-well worth investing in.

We had a music specialist in a while ago who taught us a nice song for bonfire night. Trouble is I can't quite remember the words. It goes something like:

On Bonfire night at five o'clock

I took my money to the firework shop

I bought a rocket

It cost 50 pence

I put my rocket on the garden fence.

And my rocket went

Whoosh (do actions)

On Bonfire night at five o'clock

I took my money to the firework shop

I bought a sparkler

It cost 20 pence

I put my sparkler on the garden fence

And my sparkler went

sparkle, sparkle,sparkle (do actions)

repeat for different fireworks ie banger (Bang! Bang! Bang!), catherine wheel etc.

Hello Charlotte (1st post so forgive any errors!) I have a lovely story about Smith the lonely Hedgehog by Althea but it is out of print. :o I will gladly share the story. The pictures are brilliant for transferring into easy to do wall displays. Our copy is mainly sellotape it is so loved! Briefly Smith is alone - autumn/winter is coming and he is cold. leaves are falling/Smith falls into a hole and lands on a prickly ball - Matilda offers to share her nest/ Smith is not lonely any more and they hibernate together, keeping warm. This year we made boxes (holes) made red berries out of clay (baked) stressed importance of birds/animals only eat berries etc. Made clay hogs with cocktail stick spikes! will scan and email pics from book on request (limit 20)

Hi Suelord

I have a copy of Smith the Lonely Hedgehog that my own children enjoyed many years ago and I often read it to the children at pre-school.

Bonfire night artwork - drizzle watered down glue onto black or dark blue sugar paper. Blow across the paper with a straw. When happy with patterns sprinkle with multi-coloured glitter. You can also do it by just putting dots of slightly watered down paint on and blowing across paper (but I love glitter :o )

Hi Charlotte

Just found this amongst my resources a poem by Elizabeth Clare:

Zooming, whirring, whizzing round,

Fireworks raining on the ground.

Golden fountains, silver rain,

Spurting high - then low again.

Gold and silver in the air,

Don't stand too close and do take care.

Tomato soup and chestnut brown,

Bangers jumping up and down.

Hope it helps!!

Welcome Sue! I'm new too and this is a fantastic site, loads of people have helped give me ideas.
