Guest Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Just wondered how much formal recording (if any?) folk do in maths in reception classes? We have a daily maths input and then each group works with an adult once a week on a guided activity. We usually do this through games. We haven't done any formal recording so far and now wondering if we should have been doing some??? We encourage the children to record numbers outside when appropriate and write post its/take photos of maths learning in continuous provision. looking for some advice please. Thanks
AnonyMouse_2157 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Have you read these? You might find the second particularly useful in terms of mark making; in the booklet it refers to 'mathematical graphics' in relation to children using different methods to record their mathematical thinking. http://www.childrens-mathematics.net/childrenthinkingmathematically_psrn.pdf which builds upon this http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Mark_Marking_Matters.pdf
