Guest
Im looking into changing my current daily routine as im unhappy about how long the children are expected to "sit" for singing/story times and im hoping other people can tell me how they do it.. We are in a village hall but do have access to a smaller room which is currently used for singing/story times.. we arrive at 9am and have free play, 10.45 is tidy up time, we come together in the smaller room at 11am for singing (all children), the younger group the go outside for physical play at 11.15am whilst the older group stay sitting for story time, then the groups swap over, then come together again for home time at 12pm... We can have up to 24 children each session aged between 2 & 4 , we only recently started taking the 2 year olds and the routine worked well until then.. but its time to change things i think... any ideas?? please? Thanks in advance
AnonyMouse_44476
We are a day nursery so slightly different but our morning session starts at 9:30, free play until 10:30 then tidy up time and look at books before snack at 10:45. Split into 3 groups afterwards - 2 year olds do something as a group usually outside and the other 2 groups do phonics/ outdoor play then swap! Everyone then comes together at 11:45 for singing before lunch at 12!
AnonyMouse_11396
Okay we start at 9.00 am, children self register and go straight into free play. Once all children have arrived this might be in or outside. Only stopping for key group snack time which is staggered between 9.45 to 11.00 am. The children ring the bells for tidy up time at 11.30. Then sit for story and song time. 12.00 children either move on to lunch club or go home. I think it's not so much the length of time but more about the sitting still for too long. Making it fun, interactive and exciting is more the key.
AnonyMouse_19782
Ours self reg at 9.15 and free play in or outside until 11am, tidy up, quick mat based game to stagger using the washrooms before choosing their snack and drink. They then return to play in or outside until they either go home or stay on for lunch club followed by story times, there are a lot of stories etc. told throughout the morning to any child wanting one, but we do like to end on a story, or a few songs, gathers them all together and calms everyone before home if nothing else! Any other activities singing, PE, are done for those who are interested at the time rather than all children at the same time so there is a huge variation in what may happen in any morning for any child. We do have one medium to large sized hall and a large outside area which can accommodate all children at once if we want to.
AnonyMouse_1490
We are a pre-school we have 39 registered children age range from just 2 to rising 5's. Some children come in at 8.30 . The staff that have focus activities prepare them while the other staff welcome children in. The children free play. Others arrive between 8.45 and 9.00. Circle time starts about 9.05 last 5-10 minutes. If young 2year olds do not want to join the circle they don't have to but after a few sessions they are keen to join in. Snack time starts 9.30 continues till 10.30 ish. During this time groups of children play outside or go into the small room, usually for the more noisier activities. At 11.10 everyone sits in key person groups. Children then either go home or start lunch.
AnonyMouse_49131
We start at 9.00 and have free play to 10:45am. We all tidy up and then children get ready for our outside activity (no garden) We sing songs and rhymes until all the children and staff are ready. We come back around 11:45 and then have story time. They are split into two groups for story, 12:00 lunch or home time. In the afternoon [12:30] it is harder as we are a pack away group so at 14:40 it is tidy up time and usually by 14:55 all the children are on the mat with two staff. All the staff take a turn in leading our circle time which makes for a greater variety. We sing songs, parachute, dance, music, play games like duck duck goose or go on adventure to another country or up into space! At 15:20 the children are split into two groups for a story. 15:30 home time.
Guest
We have stopped packing away mid-session and now have a short circle time just before lunch. We are a nursery and this is our general routine: 700-800 Breakfast 800-1130 Free flow play between rooms and the garden, cafe style snack between 10-1030 1130 pack away and short circle time/stories 1200 lunch We used to pack away at 10 and have a sit down snack and circle time and then pack away again before lunch. Now that the children have a longer playing time, we find that they are more ready to sit down just before lunch
