Hi everyone

I just wondered how everyone is tracking progress and attainment in Early Years? How do you show what the children's attainment is and how much progress they have made?

I am drowning in data!

 

My head does not want to see children's progress individually but as a class!

 

Our school use O tracker so I input data there.

 

The county use a tracker system that works out according to date of birth and when assessments take place how many points each child should have. As you input the data, acknowledging entering developing etc the box turns a certain colour and if it's green it means they are pretty much on track in each strand if each area of learning.

 

Reception show in percentages what each child was doing on entry and compares this to end of each term.

My head also wanted to see my data like this!!

 

It's making the data usable and not just a waste of time putting it together!

 

We are due an OFSTED so I am happy to give the head whatever he needs right now..... After we shall have to stick to one way to present the data I think!

I am just confused with how we say if a child has made typical development for their age or not. E.g. if they are 49 months on entry what should they be achieving in autumn, spring and summer? Does O tracker tell you this? I would be interested as to what they think a child should be. The problem comes when we have such a range with children entering us from 49 months all the way to 60 months!! I would like a little grid which says if they are aged ...... they should be ...... throughout the different assessment points!!!

we just keep it simple- put on a tracking document were they are age/ then their ages and stages when they came in, up date 4 times a year- and then analysed that data against vulnerable groups- so that we can pull out data about all groups of pupils- check on progress and see how our summer birthdays, boys, do- which then feeds into our intervention planning/tracking if need be.

We had our Ofsted in Feb' they didn't question long term tracking as they thought that this was a clear way of ascertaining how the children where doing and of showing clear progress.

But then we were very lucky as our inspector was an early years specialist.
