Interest in babies

Recommended Posts

Hi

We have 2 sisters at preschool and their mummy has just had a new baby.

Being a small setting (only 13 children) all our children have become engrossed in playing with our dolls and anything baby related.

Before Easter we had the baby in to visit and all the child held her whilst her big sister told them all how to hold her!

I've seen pictures of our children over Easter and it seems most of them are still very into babies. So I've decided to set up a baby care centre role play area with baby baths, bottles, prams, cots, weighing scales, clothes, highchair, carseats.

Any ideas of anything else we could add?

Also, have you got any activities we could do that are a bit more adult-led?

We have previously looked at and compared baby photos with recent photos.

Thanks

Ah snap, we have lots of new baby siblings at the moment too.

We are having babies in our water play to bath. Washing dolls clothes, pegging them out to dry.

We have also asked one of our mummies if she would bring her baby in to bath. This is always lovely for the children, they are fascinated and generally ask lots of questions.

Lots of stories on babies out there too.

Hoping to extend this with "growing" and essential things like healthy food, sleep and exercise.

I printed out pictures of items used by a baby (e,g, bottle, nappy, dummy, baby toy), used by an older child (e.g. bicycle, puzzle, shoes, lego bricks) and used by an adult ( e.g. car, phone, electric drill. lipstick), and we sorted them according to who would use them. Hope I've explained that ok.

Ok so these activities were great and ...... we are still in 'baby' mode!

We are trying to move them on a bit further as they are repeatedly feeding, bathing and cuddling the babies with little time for anything else!

Any ideas? Particularly any ideas that we can involve other areas of learning such as maths and literacy that are still linked to babies!

Thanks :1b

We have 8 away with chicken pox at the moment, so when I went in this morning I put red sticker spots on the babies, the children were delighted to see that their babies were unwell and then this led their play off into doctors hospitals etc. and how to treat poorly children, creams, lotions, duvets, DVDs etc.
