Steve
Hi Hali - At the recent Early Years and Primary Teaching exhibition up in London (did anyone else go to this by the way, I haven't read any mention of it?), I found a company called Frantic Productions who were responsible for two nativity plays called 'A Christmas Tail' and 'A Christmas Rose'. I don't know how traditional/post modern they are but they contain apparently original music and a good storyline. They cost £25 with script, piano scores and cd. You could have a look at them at www.franticproductions.co.uk, where you can also listen to music samples from the plays NB - This is NOT a recommendation from FSF. We haven't seen or heard the complete product, so can't comment on its overall quality. ( Steve's disclaimer)
Guest
Dear Hali You may wish to try Out of the Ark Music who are based in Hersham, Surrey. They have many Christmas Nativities on offer - all very simple and easy for the 2-5 year olds. They also produce music for the older children as well. They produce a new nativity each year, this year is Toby the Drummer boy which is based around the Christmas story. Others are not. They must have at least 8 or 9 to try out. I have done six of them personally. You can purchase either a CD/Tape and they come with a book with ideas for extending the learning etc. etc. Last year we had tremendous fun with Humph the Camel and the children really enjoyed the songs. They have a catalogue of all their music which covers many different aspects. The songs are great, easy to learn and I think they produce a sample CD of all their work for you to listen to as well. Price wise it is very cheap, I think about £15 for the CD and then there is a performance licence of about £10.00. I certainly would recommend giving them a try. Steve
Hi Nikki - That's a good point - I don't know what the situation is with the other people for performance licences. Do you know how licensing works generally for these sorts of productions?
Guest
Dear Hali I am Fran of Frantic Productions, kindly mentioned by Steve below! We produce a show especially for 3-5s which was highly successful last year called 'A Christmas Tail'. It is about Minty Mouse who lives in a bookshop and overhears a customer talking about a 'Christmas tale' and presumes they mean a 'Christmas tail'. He looks for a Christmas tail, asking the cats, spiders and bookworms. The bookworms eventually explain that the Christmas tale means the nativity story. There is a built in nativity tableau scene, plus a host of other funny characters. The show lasts about 25 minutes. Please listen to clips of the songs on our website. We also produce The Christmas Rose, based on a European nativity legend for 4-7s. As with our other shows for this age range, there are plenty of opportunities for three year olds to take part, but they will need support from older children. Our other early years publication is Frantic Music Games for Foundation Stage, a book of action songs, instrument games and simple composition activities for nursery and reception. Further details and prices of all of our products can be found on www.franticproductions.co.uk or phone/fax 020 8866 2430 for a brochure. You may have any of our shows on inspection for 14 days. Very best wishes Fran Carpenter MD Frantic Productions/Primary Music Specialist
Guest
PS: Frantic's licence fee is £12.00 for any number of performances, payable two weeks before your show.
Guest
Dear Steve, Re Performance Licence Normally based on either the numbers of performances/or expected numbers in audience. It normally states how much is payable in the booklet accompanying the CD, however these booklets often get lost and I don't think, (rightly or wrongly), many people remember the performance Licence issue, albeit it a small licence fee, - but I am conscious of my Group's liability.
